Roost is branching out from smart batteries to smart smoke alarms.

Available now to pre-order(Opens in a new window), the RSA-400 and RSA-200 detect smoke, fire, carbon monoxide, and natural gas without breaking the bank.The four-in-one RSA-400 boasts the full security suite for $79.99; its cheaper sibling detects only smoke and fire for $59.99.

Get started by installing the alarm on your ceiling, then download the Roost app (iOS(Opens in a new window) and Android(Opens in a new window)) and connect to your home Wi-Fi network. Once synced, users receive smartphone alerts whenever the alarm sounds, whether they’re home or away. Friends and family can also receive emergency alerts, so they can check on your home if something goes wrong while you’re on vacation.

Silence alarms in the app with one tap in those situations when you’re just dealing with burned toast, but no actual flames. It keeps a record of your smoke alarm activity, so you can see the last time it sounded or was tested.

Both 120-volt hard-wired smart alarms come packaged with a Roost 9V ($39.99 at Amazon)(Opens in a new window)  smart battery backup. Introduced last summer following a successful Kickstarter campaign(Opens in a new window), Roost’s $35 retrofit battery solution transforms most ordinary smoke or CO alarms into a smart system that eliminates that annoying 3 a.m. chirp, and sends smartphone messages in case of emergency.
