Stolen cars are an implicit part of the Grand Theft Auto gameplay, but disappearing vehicles seem to be an unintended consequence of new GTA 5 upgrades.
Some players reported missing cars following an upgrade and a completed mission, saying that they found their virtual garage empty.
“We have received some reports about problems with cars and garages, particularly after upgrading and then completing a mission, and are looking into this now,” Rockstar Games wrote in a support page message(Opens in a new window). “Unfortunately, we do not currently have a workaround to recover a car if it is missing.”
The issue seems to be linked back to gamers driving another character’s personal vehicle, according to the Rockstar post.
While the company looks into a fix, users can log into the Support Site and click Subscribe to receive an automatic email notification when the update is live.
“In the meantime,” Rockstar said, “please try to avoid parking a car in a garage, driving one already in a garage, or getting in a default vehicle, when playing as a character other than the one with your upgrades.”
This glitch isn’t the only trouble for GTA 5 players. PCMag sister site Geek.com today reported(Opens in a new window) an Xbox 360 issue, which causes the heist game to freeze or crash on older versions of the Microsoft console.
Those who own Xbox 360 machines manufactured between 2005 and 2009 seem to be most at risk, based on comments posted to the unofficial gtaforums.com(Opens in a new window) site.
Rockstar did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Despite its early glitches, Grand Theft Auto 5 turned into quite a success story, earning more than $1 billion in just three days of global sales. The latest version of the franchise debuted on Sept. 17 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 4.
Its three-day haul “marks the fastest that any entertainment property, including video games and feature films, has reached this significant milestone,” Take-Two Interactive Software said last week.
