Acer on Thursday announced plans to launch the first Chromebook model with a fourth-generation Intel Core i3 processor.

The C720 Chromebook(Opens in a new window) is now available in two models powered by the Core i3, offering “faster and more responsive performance for multi-tasking, while also providing long battery life of up to 8.5 hours,” Acer said. Previous models featured Intel Atom and Celeron CPUs.

The Acer C720-3404 will have 4GB of memory and will be priced at $379.99, while the Acer C720-3871 will have 2GB of memory and will be priced at $349.99. They will be available this month at retailers in North America.

Intel said the boost in performance and battery life will be especially useful to families and students. Like other Acer C720 models, the C720-3404 and C720-3871 will have a 32GB Solid State Drive that boots up in less than seven seconds and resumes nearly instantly from sleep mode.

Both models feature an 11.6-inch HD with a 1,366 by 768 resolution. Other specs include 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, an integrated HD webcam and microphone, and a range of port choices, including HDMI, USB 3.0, and USB 2.0.

“We’ve been breaking new ground with our Chromebooks since 2011, and our new Intel Core i3 model will deliver more of what our customers love about our Chromebooks, including excellent performance and all-day battery life,” Eric Ackerson, senior product marketing and brand manager for Acer America, said in a statement.

The existing C720 Chromebook with a Haswell-based Intel Celeron 2955U processor received an “excellent” rating of four-out-of-five stars in PCMag’s review for its thin frame, constantly-updated OS, and 6.5-hour battery life.
