Everything Microsoft Announced at Its Annual Hardware Event

[ad_1]

We’ve recently seen new Apple, Amazon, and Google hardware, which means it’s Microsoft’s turn. At its annual hardware event—which remained virtual—Microsoft took the wraps off of new Surface devices: the Surface Laptop 5, Surface Pro 9, and the Surface Studio 2+, all of which come complete with updated processors. The company also showed off a few new work-from-home accessories, as well as a brand-new Microsoft 365 app.

All the Surface hardware below is currently available for preorder starting today at Microsoft.com, and will officially hit shelves on October 25. Here’s everything Microsoft announced.

Compared to its predecessor, the Surface Laptop 5 brings incremental changes. As usual, it’s available in 13.5-inch and 15-inch options. The smaller size is available in a new Sage color and in Sandstone, and both sizes also come in Platinum and Matte Black. Microsoft didn’t expand its port selection—you’ll get a USB-A port, a 3.5-mm headphone jack, a Surface Connect Port, and a USB-C port. But the latter now supports Thunderbolt 4, meaning you can connect a 4K monitor and transfer large files at faster speeds.

Internally, both the 13- and 15-inch Surface Laptop 5 come with a 12th-generation Intel processor—an i5 or i7 for the 13 incher, and the 15-inch machine only comes with the more powerful i7. The Surface Laptop 5 starts at $1,000.

Last year’s Surface Pro 8 made some significant upgrades, like a bigger and brighter display, better low-light capabilities on the cameras, Thunderbolt 4 ports, and support for the Slim Pen 2 (complete with a detachable keyboard that stores and charges it). The new Surface Pro 9 maintains all of those same features, but you can now choose between two versions: a 12th-gen Intel Core processor (i5 or i7) or a 5G model powered by a Microsoft SQ 3 chip from Qualcomm. The Intel models are also available in two new colors: sapphire and forest (in addition to the traditional platinum and graphite options).
