10 Cool iPod Touch Cases

The iPod touch lives in a weird little world somewhere between the iPod
and the iPhone. It’s not at ease with being just a no-fuss, no-muss MP3 player. In possession of nearly every app the iPhone has, it does far more than its iPod moniker suggests. But when cut off from WiFi, it loses its status as its functionality steeply declines.

There are those making the case for the iPod touch to have iPhone-like abilities, specifically case makers. There have been attempts at ones that make the iPod touch into an ersatz (Wifi-only) iPhone. Though the MorphCase(Opens in a new window), which aims to do just that with a built-in speaker and mic, came in nearly $99,000 short of its $100,000 goal on Indiegogo. But while the MorphCase hasn’t changed the iPod Touch, other cases, like the FreedomPop, have successfully unchained it from Wifi.

Whether or not it’s riding high on WiFi, because of its flexibility, the iPod touch ends up going places even the iPhone dare not. That means that it needs cases for the variety of situations and environments it finds itself in. While the majority of cases are geared toward providing protection for the iPod touch, some go far beyond and enhance the experiences the device brings. There are currently two camps of iPod touch cases: those for the fourth generation and those for the fifth generation. Both models of the device are being manufactured by Apple.
