E-Fun Nextbook Elite 10 Preview

[ad_1]

The Nextbook Elite 10 ($249.99 direct) is E-Fun’s latest foray into the tablet market, following in the footsteps of its Nextbook Premium 9 tablet. The Elite 10 will compete with the Apple iPad 2 and a slew similar Android slabs, but it comes at a lower price than most other 10-inch tablets.

The new tablet features a 9.7-inch capacitive touch screen, with a 1024-by-768-pixel resolution. Under the hood, there’s a dual-core 1.1-GHz Broadcom A9 processor, though no other details on memory or internal storage have been released. The Elite 10 will come preloaded with the Kobo ebook store and also the SlideME application manager for third-party app downloads. Rounding out the features are a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, Wi-Fi, and over-the-air update capability.

The specs here are pretty standard for Android tablets thus far and even seem a bit staid next to current and upcoming quad-core powered tablets. The Elite 10 will, however, be among the first tablets to come preloaded with Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich.” At $250, the Elite 10 will match up, price-wise, with many current 7-inch tablets like the Barnes and Noble Nook Tablet and Amazon Kindle Fire. The Elite 10 could make an interesting choice for people who prefer the 10-inch form factor, but don’t want to shell out the big bucks for a bigger screen.

Look for tablets to become more inexpensive in both 7- and 10-inch form factors, as manufacturers look to beat the iPad on price. However, keep in mind that many of these budget-friendly tablets are saddled with aging hardware and limited features.

The Nextbook Elite 10 is slated to hit retail shelves sometime this spring.
