The Microsoft Surface Windows 8 Pro ($698.98 at Amazon)(Opens in a new window) has been highly anticipated as the Surface tablet that actually works with the Windows programs that you use now. Inside the Surface Pro, you’ll find an Intel Core i5-3317U processor with Intel HD Graphics, a 128GB SSD, 4GB of memory, and a 10.6-inch 1080p screen. It’s no wonder so many folks are excited to get their hands on the Surface Pro; it’s a tablet built with the components of a “real” laptop as opposed to a low-powered mobile processor.
Our beefed-up press review kit came with a few components that are optional extras, but everything you see in the slideshow will be available at Best Buy and Microsoft Stores come Feb. 9. Along with the 128GB top-of-the-line Surface Pro, we received the Microsoft Touch Cover (for Surface) in black and Microsoft Type Covers, VGA and HDMI adapters ($40 each), plus the Microsoft Wedge Touch Mouse Surface Edition.
Packed into the Surface Pro’s box are the power adapter with auxilary USB charging port, stylus, and several instruction booklets. The 2-pound tablet is packaged in a two-part box, which opens so the Surface and its power adapter are the first thing you see in the open box. The Surface Pro is a little thicker than the RT version, but the new tablet fits in your hand similarly. If you’ve used the Surface RT, popping the Surface Pro’s kickstand is a natural motion, and the keyboard covers snap into place with a satisfying click.
