The formal integration of Apple and Beats Electronics has begun, but not all Beats employees are coming to Cupertino. And of those who do, only some will receive temporary assignments.

Apple has allegedly laid off an unspecified number of Beats workers whose positions overlap with the infrastructure Apple already has in place, which likely affects those within Beats Music’s finance, human resources, and support departments, 9to5Mac reported(Opens in a new window) yesterday.

Around 200 or so of Beats’s 700 employees have been extended temporary offers to work at Apple, Bloomberg(Opens in a new window) reported today. It’s unclear just when said employees’ terms might run out, but sources speaking to 9to5Mac indicated that they will be there until January 2015.

“We’re excited to have the Beats team join Apple, and we have extended job offers to every Beats employee. Because of some overlap in our operations, some offers are for a limited period and we’ll work hard during this time to find as many of these Beats employees as we can another permanent job within Apple,” Apple told 9to5Mac.

There’s also no official word on what might happen to some of the top executives at Beats. While Beats Music co-founders Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre will both take positions at Apple, working under Apple senior vice president of Internet software and services Eddy Cue, it’s still unclear what might happen to CEO Ian Rogers and chief creative officer Trent Reznor (of Nine Inch Nails fame).

An undisclosed source speaking to 9to5Mac says that the two, previously rumored to not be joining Apple, will in fact be at Apple for an unknown time period (and capacity), though specifics have not been announced.
