Fresh off its $3 billion acquisition by Apple, Beats on Thursday introduced a new set of headphones dubbed the Solo2.
The next-generation Solo headphones offer a “more dynamic, wider range of sound, with a clarity that will bring you closer to what the artist intended,” according to Beats, which said the previous Solo model sold one every four minutes in 2013.
The Solo2 sports the same aesthetic as the Beats Studio with a flexible headband and no visible screws. The frame of the headphones have been curved for a more “custom-fit feeling,” while the earcups have been “ergonomically angled” with pivots for optimal comfort and sound delivery.
You also shouldn’t have to worry about your ears overheating too much when you wear the Solo2 this summer. The earcups are made of a “premium material” that dissipates heat while minimizing sound leakage, Beats said.
“When you think about Beats you think about iconic design, incredible sound, premium quality, profound comfort and of course, portability; we’ve worked hard to earn this reputation and along with that comes very high expectations,” Beats President Luke Wood said in a statement. “Solo2 delivers on all fronts while finding new frontiers in audio performance to bring the emotion back to music.”
The Solo2 comes in black, white, red, blue, gray, and pink for $199.99. They’re available for pre-order now, and will hit store shelves on June 1.
Meanwhile, Beats also on Thursday released its $299 Studio headphone in two new colors — champagne and metallic sky. The company is also gearing up to launch an all-white version of the Studio featuring cultured marble that was designed in partnership with the art and architecture collaborative Snarkitecture. The new Snarkitecture X Beats will set you back a cool $600 when it goes on sale June 9.
