Bose launched its next-generation SoundLink Bluetooth speaker today with a $299.95 price tag.

Promising to be Bose’s “best-performing Bluetooth speaker yet,” the SoundLink Bluetooth speaker III includes better audio performance, a new design, longer battery life, and accessory covers in five colors.

Take the speaker with you to game night, the beach, or even the bathroom for some morning-shower singing—just pair it wirelessly with your smartphone, tablet, or other Bluetooth device.

Inside, the SoundLink III houses four neodymium transducers and dual-opposing passive radiators, as well as a new digital signal processing algorithm and improved electronics. According to Bose, that means the speaker will play music louder than its predecessor, while still maintaining a balanced and natural sound at higher levels listening levels.

“The SoundLink III is beautifully crafted and engineered for durability and grab-and-go use,” the company said today. Its industrial design was inspired by Bose’s own SoundLink Mini Bluetooth speaker—a sturdy little device with curved edges and a thin profile.

Those updated elements also account for the 3-pound speaker’s portability; standing at 5 inches high, 10 inches wide, and 2 inches deep, the SoundLink III can slip easily in and out of a purse or backpack for on-the-go listening.

And despite a built-in silicon button panel that protects from dirt, and the wraparound metal grille that resists fingerprints, those clumsy users who want just one more level of protection can pick out an accessory cover. Add a flare of personalization with the gray, blue, green, orange, or pink case.

Bose also includes a rechargeable lithium-ion battery for up to 14 hours of listening, as well as a new Bluetooth LED signal light to make pairing devices easier.

The SoundLink Bluetooth Speaker III is available now via authorized Bose dealers, Bose retail stores, and Bose.com(Opens in a new window), for $300. Accessory covers are available separately for $34.95 each.
