Hewlett-Packard PCs will soon be alive with the sound of music, thanks to a new partnership with Bang & Olufsen(Opens in a new window).
The Danish brand will lend its audio technology to HP’s lineup, promising bold, crisp, accurate sound in each custom-tuned notebook, desktop, tablet, and accessory.
All HP devices carrying the Bang & Olufsen or B&O PLAY(Opens in a new window) brand will come with what the computer maker referred to as “a dedicated audio island,” which isolates sensitive audio circuits from other signals on the motherboard. Plus, the headphone jack comes with limited metal parts, helping to reduce ground noise.
“Audio plays an important role in the experience customers have on their PCs, tablets, and accessories, whether it’s watching a movie, listening to music, or Skyping with friends and family,” Ron Coughlin, senior vice president of personal systems at HP, said in a statement.
HP devices will include an audio control panel for customization. Enhance the audio experience by using preset configurations already tuned by HP and Bang & Olufsen, or manually measure the sound to your liking.
“Bang & Olufsen and B&O PLAY have a long heritage in delivering great music and audio experiences for people no matter where they decide to enjoy their media,” Bang & Olufsen CEO Tue Mantoni said. “We are excited to collaborate with HP to bring our iconic sound to HP PCs.”

The first Hewlett-Packard personal computing systems with Bang & Olufsen audio—the Spectre, Omen, Envy, and select commercial PCs—are set for a spring release. The B&O PLAY brand will also appear on HP Pavilion PCs, tablets, and accessories.
Existing HP devices are currently equipped with audio from Beats Electronics. But the terms of Apple’s $3 billion Beats acquisition mean that HP can only sell Beats-enhanced devices until the end of 2015(Opens in a new window).
