Scosche is joining the Apple Lightning squad with five new products for home and on-the-go charging.
The Lightning connector fits the latest lineup of iDevices, replacing the 30-pin connector obsolete on new iPhones, iPod touches, and iPads. Now Scosche has a few options(Opens in a new window) that aim to keep your battery fully juiced.
The accessory maker is the first to offer separate 5-watt and 12-watt chargers for Lightning devices the strikeDRIVE (pictured) and strikeBASE, for car and wall charging, respectively.
Scosche touted its car charger’s low-profile design, which the company said will fit flush in most vehicles. Its 3-foot coiled cable expands and contracts and “gives you the freedom to use your device while it charges,” according to the product description.
The 5-watt accessory will charge the iPhone 5, fifth-gen iPod touch, and seventh-gen iPod nano but work a little slower on the iPad mini, the company said. Its 12-watt counterpart works perfectly for the fourth-generation iPad and iPad mini.
Scosche’s wall charger (right) follows a similar design, with 3 feet of cable and flush folding wall prongs for portability. It also comes in 5- and 12-watt options.
Adding to your Lightning charger repertoire comes at a price: Scosche’s in-vehicle accessories run for $24.99 (5W) and $29.99 (12W) less than the wall chargers for $29.99 (5W) and $34.99 (12W). The company also has a retractable charge-and-sync cable for Lightning devices; the strikeLINE pro costs $24.99.
Apple, meanwhile, quietly launched a new, though not necessarily improved, version of its original Lightning cable this week. Along with a new pair of EarPods that feature a larger remote (for $29), Cupertino is selling a new Lightning cord that measures only half a meter long exactly half the length of the cable shipping with the latest iOS devices, according to Ubergizmo(Opens in a new window). But it won’t cost half of the price: Apple is still selling it for $19.
