Good news, Sonos owners. The wireless speaker company on Tuesday dropped a highly anticipated update for its iOS and Android Controller app.
First introduced in beta back in March, the update most notably brings a new universal search feature, which lets you hunt for jams across all of your music services at once. Say you have three different music services installed; a search for the artist Beck will now return relevant matches from all three.
Sonos currently supports 38 music-streaming services, including Songza, Hype Machine, Pandora, Google Play, and Shuffler.fm. You can add additional music services from the app menu.
“Only Sonos offers one window to quickly search across all your music services,” the company wrote in a blog post(Opens in a new window). “Start typing an artist and discover their new album, radio station and more. Search for a track and discover all the versions across services including live performances, remixes and covers.”
The app also lets you bring your music together, regardless of where it lives. You can add tracks from Beats Music, Spotify, and your iTunes library into the same playlist, for instance.
Besides that, the update brings a more intuitive user interface, which should make it quicker and easier to navigate between the music currently playing, the room it’s playing in, and your song queue. New shortcuts from the Now Playing screen let you add tracks to playlists, save music to your favorites, as well as easily turn on shuffle, repeat, cross-fade, or set timers.
The updated Sonos controller app is now live in the App Store(Opens in a new window) and Google Play(Opens in a new window).
