Because shaking it like a Polaroid picture never really went out of style, Fujifilm this week unveiled its Instax Mini 90 Neo Classic(Opens in a new window) camera.
For the hipsters who can’t fit a modern point-and-shoot in their skinny-jean pocket, the Neo Classic’s Polaroid-like features and 1970s aesthetic fits right in next to the thick glasses and scraggly beards.
A nod to the retro-inspired X series, the new Mini 90 Neo Classic is an upgrade to Fujifilm’s Instax lineup, which also includes the $100 Mini 8 and its 2.4-by-1.8-inch photos.
This time around, Fujifilm included macro mode, double exposure mode, and bulb mode for up to 10-second exposures, a rechargeable battery, and a high-performance flash. The Phoblographer blog also tipped(Opens in a new window) a 60mm f12 lens with an easily programmable electronic shutter that can capture images at up to 1/400th of a second.
The Mini 90 also carries a larger price tag: When the camera launches next spring in the U.S., it will reportedly cost about $210; it is expected to hit Japanese shelves(Opens in a new window) in September.
Fujifilm did not immediately respond to PCMag’s request for comment.
Almost five years ago, Fujifilm managed to resurrect the dying art of Polaroid-style cameras with its line of Instax Mini instant-film devices. And while you still take a picture, pull the exposing paper out, and wait for the color to spread, these cameras packed more of a punch than the Polaroids of yore.
