Lytro is going 3-dimensional. The light field camera maker on Tuesday rolled out a software update for Mac, Windows, and iOS that lets users “experience living pictures in 3D on their desktop and on mobile devices.”
With the latest version of the software, photos taken on the camera that have been processed in Perspective Shift can be displayed in 3D.
These 3D images can be displayed in Presentation Mode on the updated desktop and mobile apps, and on 3D-capable TVs over HDMI or Apple AirPlay. Lytro said it now offers the first camera that allows photographers to create a 3D image with a single exposure at the push of a button.
“The beauty and power of Light Field technology is that we are able to continue to expand on how living pictures are experienced, first with Perspective Shift and now 3D,” Lytro CEO Jason Rosenthal said in a statement. “Lytro remains committed to delivering new ways to make visual storytelling more immersive and engaging through innovative software and hardware.”
Lytro Desktop 3.1 for Mac and Windows is available now at Lytro.com(Opens in a new window) while Lytro Mobile 1.2 for iOS can be found in the App Store(Opens in a new window). Lytro in July first launched its iOS app, which lets users view and share photos snapped with a Lytro camera on the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Meanwhile, a cobalt blue version of the Lytro camera is now available exclusively at the Apple Online Store(Opens in a new window) worldwide, along with a limited edition champagne model for the U.S. and Canada. Lytro has also signed up new retail partners in the Netherlands.
