LAS VEGAS—LenovoEMC was at CES here to announce new NAS (Network Attached Storage) boxes for business and consumers alike.
The new LenovoEMC px4-400d Network Storage is an update to the Iomega StorCenter px4-300d; (Iomega was acquired by EMC in 2008, and Lenovo and EMC partnered up last year). This newest device is a four-bay, small to mid-sized business storage server. A quick rundown of features include hot-swappable SARA-III disk drives and support for up to 16TB of storage, while extra connectivity options include HDMI, eSATA, and USB 3.0.
Businesses of all sizes can benefit from what the px4-300d can do. Implement remote access to data on the NAS using its built-in cloud technology, which can also be used for remote management and file sharing, data replication, advanced RAID, and more.
LenovoEMS states that users will see up to 25 percent higher data Reads and Writes over previous px4-300d devices.
In addition, the user interface can appear in 18 different languages. The px4-300d is certified to support Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012 R2, VMWare EXS, XenServer, iSCSI, and NFS.
The diskless model is now available at $729 for the diskless model. The Server class and Pro series model can ship with disks that support 1TB, 2TB, 3TB, or 4TB HDDs.
Organizations with more storage needs will be interested in the rackmount four-bay network storage array the vendor also announced—the LenovoEMC px4-400r. This 1U NAS also supports hot-swap 7200rpm SATA-III server class drives and up to 16TB of storage. It offers the same capabilities as well as an optional dual-port GB Ethernet card for link aggregation and link failover.
The px4-400r uses the LenovoEMC’s LifeLine operation system. Features include Windows Active Domain join, built-in Cloud tech, virtualization support, solid-state drive support and more. The px4-400r is available now and pricing starts at $1,399 for the diskless model.
Home users: LenovoEMC announced the Lenovo Beacon Home Cloud Centre. This is an enclosed storage device that allows for remote sharing and access to data including music, pictures, and video. Beacon allows you to stream music and video across multiple devices. You can also use an Android mobile device to act as a remote control to play and access media files on a PC or a TV via HDMI.
The Beacon device supports up to 6TB of storage. Other specs include 1GB DDR3 memory, USB 3.0 and HDMI-out ports, RAID 0 and 1, an Intel Atom dual-core processor, and integrated Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity options.
