Logitech M325c Wireless Optical Mouse Review

[ad_1]

There are plenty of business-friendly, two-tone, black-and-gray mice out there. Logitech’s M325c Wireless Optical Mouse ($29.99) is not one of them. It’s very small, so it’s a good choice to take along with you in your laptop bag, and you can choose from many vibrant color and pattern options that will spice up your desk. Its compact size and fun design mean it could even work nicely as a child’s first mouse. There aren’t many bells and whistles, and the scroll wheel could be a bit too sensitive for some, but if you need basic, inexpensive wireless mouse with a little bit of added flair, the M325c is worth a look.

Design and Features
Measuring a mere 3.73 by 2.24 by 1.54 inches (HWD) and weighing 3.28 ounces, the M325c   ($19.99 at Office Depot® & OfficeMax®)(Opens in a new window)  is very small and light, roughly the same size, but lighter than the travel-ready Rapoo 3100P Wireless Optical Mouse ( at Amazon)(Opens in a new window) (3.5 by 2.25 by 1.35 inches (HWD); 3.52 ounces), and a little more compact than the Editors’ Choice for basic wireless mice, Logitech’s own Wireless Mouse M320 ($44.99 at Amazon)(Opens in a new window) (4.15 by 2.67 by 1.51 inches; 3 ounces). I have fairly small hands, and it still barely fit comfortably in my hand. It’s made of a glossy plastic all around, so it’s a little slippery to the touch. The Right- and Left-Click buttons are slightly concave, so they contour to the shape of your fingertips. It’s a standard right-and-left click mouse with a scroll wheel in the center. The mouse is ambidextrous, so both lefties and righties can use it. The M325c is compatible with Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, and Linux.

The M325c is a simple mouse with few features, but you can tilt the scroll wheel left (Back) or right (Forward) to mimic the page navigation arrows in your Web browser. I found it an unnecessary feature, and one that took some getting used to in my testing. Under the scroll wheel is a small light that turns green to let you know that the mouse is on.

Flip over the mouse, and you’ll find the On/Off button. Inside there’s a slot for the USB nano receiver and a single AA battery (the latter of which you need to provide). According to Logitech, you should be able to use the mouse for about 18 months before needing to replace the battery.

Logitech M325c Wireless Optical Mouse Inline

The most notable feature of the M325c is its colorful design options. My review unit had a starburst owl design in blue, green, red, and yellow, and there are eight additional designs to choose from including a cool blue chevron, a bright sunburst pattern, and more. They’re all very colorful and provide a welcome break from the boring mono mice you see at most workstations.

Performance and Conclusions
To pair the Logitech M325c Wireless Optical Mouse with your computer, simply insert the nano reciever into a USB port and turn the mouse on. The mouse uses a 2.4GHz wireless connection, and in testing, lag was virtually nonexistent. With a 1,000 dots-per-inch (dpi) resolution, the mouse’s sensitivity is in line with other budget wireless mice and worked on most surfaces seamlessly in my testing. The scroll wheel is a bit too sensitive for my taste, making it easy to accidentally scroll up or down. Otherwise, the mouse works well.

Logitech’s own Wireless Mouse M320 is an easier-to-hold option, with a rubberized grip, that will likely fit more hands than the M325c. If you’re looking for a more programmable option, the Logitech Wireless Mouse M560 ($39.99 at Logitech)(Opens in a new window) is worth a look. Still, the M325c is a fun, colorful mouse for occasional use, travel, or as a kid’s first mouse.

Pros
  • Ambidextrous design.
  • Vibrant color options.
  • Unique back-and-forward clicking feature on the scroll wheel.
Cons
  • Scroll wheel is a bit too sensitive.
  • Might be too small for many hands.
The Bottom Line

The $30 Logitech M325c Wireless Optical Mouse is fun and interesting looking, but the scroll wheel and sensor are a bit too touchy.
