HP is announcing several new models today, with an emphasis on flexible 2-in-1 designs, and options for laptop shoppers looking for alternatives to Windows.

In the 2-in-1 space, HP is releasing two new convertible laptops, the mainstream Pavilion x360 and the premium Envy x360, a detachable hybrid called the HP Split x2, and two laptops powered by Google, a refreshed Chromebook 11 and a new Android powered laptop, the HP SlateBook.

Pavilion and Envy Convertibles
First up, HP has announced two new convertible hybrid designs, the Pavilion x360 and Envy x360 convertible PCs, which double as laptop and tablet. The new Pavilion x360 laptop folds back and around to offer tablet functionality, letting you use the system in Notebook, Stand, Tent, and Tablet modes. The 13-inch laptop is small enough for portability and on-the-go use, but large enough for a keyboard for full-featured productivity. The Pavilion x360 will be available with a variety of processor options, from AMD (A6, A8, A10) and Intel (Core i3 and Core i5), with storage options ranging from 500GB to 1TB, and up to 8GB of RAM.

The Pavilion x360 comes in red and silver, and will be available starting July 9, for AMD-equipped configurations only, starting at $629.99. Shortly after, on July 20, the Intel processor options will be available for purchase, starting at $599.99.

Debuting alongside the Pavilion is the Envy x360, a 15-inch laptop that offers the same 360-degree hinge on a larger system, with more premium features. The laptop features a 15.6-inch display, and a variety of Intel processors (Core i3, Core i5, and Core i7), along with up to 1TB of storage and an optical drive, all while measuring only 0.93 inches thick. The Envy x360 will also feature the extra-wide HP ControlZone touchpad, previously seen on the HP Spectre 13T-3000, which augments the touchpad support for Windows 8 with a wider touch surface and easily distinguished zones for gestures.

Split x2 Detachable
Joining in on the 2-in-1 fun is the HP Split x2, which will be called the Pavilion x2 Detachable in non-U.S. markets. The Split x2, as the name suggests, is a detachable hybrid, with a slim tablet that attaches to a docking keyboard for full laptop functionality. The slim tablet and notebook have a fanless design, taking advantage of the lower heat generated by the Intel Bay Trail and Haswell processors offered on the device. Available in white, silver, or red, the Split x2 weighs only 4.3 pounds and measures 0.879 inches thick when docked to the keyboard, slimming down to 0.53 inches thick and 2.45 pounds when using the tablet alone. Plus, the docking keyboard has a secondary battery, which extends the battery life from an estimated 5 hours up to an estimated 7.75 hours when docked. The Split x2 will be available for purchase on July 16 starting at $599.99.

Windows Alternatives
Folks wanting to escape the ubiquity of Windows in the laptop world get two more options, with the Android-powered HP SlateBook PC or the Chrome-based HP Chromebook.

The HP SlateBook PC is a small, 14-inch laptop with a touch screen, which runs Android 4.4 KitKat and gives you all of your favorite Android apps in a laptop form factor for taking full advantage of productive capabilities you might not be able to make the most of on a phone or tablet. The small laptop boasts an Nvidia Tegra 4 processor, up to 2GB of RAM, and up to 64GB of internal storage. HP claims that the SlateBook will offer up to 9 hours of battery life or more. The slim SlateBook comes in a distinctive black and yellow color scheme, and will be available for purchase starting August 6, with a starting price of $429.

HP is also updating its Chromebook 11 with a new look, replacing the white enameled-exterior with a brushed metal palmrest and your choice of white or turquoise on the exterior. The refreshed Chromebook 11 will be outfitted with a Samsung Exynos 5250 processor, up to 2GB of RAM, and up to 16GB of local storage. For even more flexibility, the Chromebook 11 also has optional 3G connectivity built in. The availability date of the new Chromebook hasn’t yet been announced, but the small Chromebook 11 will start at $249.
