Samsung Galaxy S III

Many consider the recently introduced Samsung Galaxy S III to be Android’s answer to the iPhone: it’s big, bright, well-reviewed, and popular, winning an Editors’ Choice Award from PCMag.

In fact, IHS iSuppli found that the S III’s display is of higher quality than the renowned “Retina display” of Apple’s iconic smartphone. Samsung has also confirmed that it will be bringing Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to the S III in the U.S., and users shouldn’t have to wait too much longer for it. Is it any surprise that S III sales have risen an average of 9 percent per week, and actually spiked during the patent dispute between Samsung and Apple?

“The new flagship smartphone from the world’s number-one mobile phone company, Samsung’s Galaxy S III ($199.99-$249.99 with contract) for Verizon Wireless is literally a huge achievement,” Sascha Segan wrote in his review of the Verizon model. (Note: although some aspects of the phone’s wireless performance will be dependent on carrier, the reviews are virtually identical for AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon.) “If you love big phones with lots of options, the GS3 will deliver state-of-the-art performance with bonus sharing and media features that you’re likely to continue discovering a year from now. ”

Like any phone, however, the experience can be augmented by key peripherals and accessories: a good speakerphone, a Bluetooth headset, and even a cable to show off the phone’s pictures and video directly on your HDTV. And don’t forget to check out our roundup of Cool Cases for Your Samsung Galaxy S III.

3. Plantronics BackBeat Go

4. Aliph Jawbone Era

Aliph Jawbone Era

The Aliph Jawbone Era is more than a headset: it’s a potential audio computing platform. It’s the first Bluetooth headset with an accelerometer and a dedicated applications processor, which could turn it into anything from a game controller to a pedometer, or a navigation unit. The sound quality can be just a touch muddy, however.

5. Logitech UE Mobile Boombox

Logitech UE Mobile Boombox

You might find louder and sharper Bluetooth speakers than the $99 Logitech UE Mobile Boombox, but you won’t find a better all-around package close to its price. It wins our Editors’ Choice award for the category. Nitpicks: the bass could be stronger. And the speakerphone, while clear, doesn’t get particularly loud.

6. MHL Adapter

MHL Adapter

Occasionally, you’ll want to transfer video taken by your S III to your television. Yes, you can do this via YouTube. But there’s a direct option: the MHL video cable. Normally, we’d agree that the best place to buy this is online. But, as Phandroid notes(Opens in a new window), older MHL cables won’t work with the S III. It might be a good idea to pick this accessory up from a physical store, so you can quickly bring it back if it doesn’t work. It might be even worth it to buy it from the carrier itself.
