Huawei today unveiled(Opens in a new window) a new, 7-inch tablet that can be used to make phone calls.

The Huawei MediaPad 7 Vogue includes “a built-in receiver for direct calling capabilities that remove the need for headphones,” according to the company – if you don’t feel silly holding a 7-inch tablet up to or in front of your face.

The MediaPad 7 runs a 1.2-GHz processor and 16-core GPU. The 7-inch touch screen features a 1,024-by-600 display. At this point, it only runs Android 4.1 and comes pre-loaded with Facebook, YouTube, GPS navigation, Huawei’s Emotion UI 1.5 skin, email and word processing apps.

Huawei said consumers can hook up the MediaPad 7 to accessories like external keyboards, mice, and USB drives, while the gadget also supports Bluetooth. It can connect to Wi-Fi or 3G/DC-HSPA+.

“Building on the popularity of the Huawei MediaPad series, we’ve created a new tablet that caters to fashionistas, technology seekers, entertainment junkies, and people who simply expect more from their technology,” Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group, said in a statement. “We’re delighted to introduce the MediaPad 7 Vogue, our call-enabled tablet with world-class entertainment capabilities and long-lasting battery power.”

Huawei said users can expect playback of four HD movies or more than 20 hours of continuous calling on one battery charge.

The MediaPad 7 Vogue will debut in China this month, in black and white. Huawei said that “other markets” will follow, but did not elaborate.

Huawei unveiled the MediaPad, its first 7-inch tablet, two years ago. A 10-inch version was announced last year.
