Looking for a new Verizon smartphone on the cheap? Look no further.

LG Electronics today launched the Lucid2 smartphone, which will be available exclusively from Verizon for free with a new two-year service agreement. Designed for first-time smartphone users, the midrange Lucid2 runs Android Jelly Bean (4.1.2) and features a large, 4.3-inch qHD IPS display and a 5-megapixel camera on the back.

“In today’s highly connected world, mobile devices have become an essential tool for helping people balance their lives,” Georg Rasinski, director of mobile brand management at LG Electronics USA, said in a statement(Opens in a new window). “Whether it’s a morning meeting, a family get-together or weekend shopping, Lucid2 by LG is designed to provide first-time smartphone users with an intuitive yet robust smartphone to stay connected and help accomplish their daily tasks.”

The phone can run in either Starter Mode, which features helpful widgets and a simplified interface, or Standard Mode, which has five customizable home screens for those who are more tech-savvy. It also comes with the QuickMemo app, which lets users draw on their photos and screenshots with their finger, and share them via email or on social media sites.

As for other specs, there’s a 1.2-GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, and a 2,460mAh battery. The Lucid2 taps into Verizon’s 4G LTE network, and sports wireless features such as Bluetooth 4.0 and LG Smart Share for transferring videos and photos to a television. The camera, meanwhile, boasts features like Time Catch Shot, which lets users snap multiple photos before pressing the shutter button, and Cheese Shot, which allows for hands-free photo capture by saying “cheese.”

Those interested in the Lucid2 can order it starting Thursday, April 4 on Verizon’s website, or pick it up at a Verizon store “in the coming weeks,” LG said.

Meanwhile, LG last month formally unveiled the Optimus G Pro, a higher-end smartphone with a 5.5-inch screen and 13-megapixel rear-facing camera. The Optimus G Pro has been a success in Korea, selling 500,000 units in 40 days, but there’s still no definitive answer as to whether it will be headed to America.
