LG is planning to show off something new next month, and we’re pretty sure it’s the Optimus G2.
The Korean electronics giant on Monday sent out invitations (left) to members of the media for a New York event on Aug. 7, strongly hinting that it plans to unveil the much-rumored Optimus G2 smartphone. The invitation reads”Great 2 Have You!” with the G and the 2 larger than any other text.
If that didn’t make things clear enough, LG also released a teaser video (below) titled “To me, you are perfect. From G…” The video doesn’t give too much away, but also implies a new Optimus G is on the way.
The latest effort to hype up the phone comes after LG in June announced(Opens in a new window) that the successor to the Optimus G would be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 processor, which was first unveiled in January. The Snapdragon 800 will be featured in the LTE-A version of the Galaxy S 4 and the 6.4-inch Sony Xperia Z Ultra.
PCMag ran a slew of benchmarks on the Snapdragon 800 in June, and got a 405 on Basemark OS, which is 33 percent faster than the Galaxy S 4 at 294. There was also a major boost in program launch times.
Meanwhile, the existing Optimus G sports a 4.7-inch 720p IPS display and oversized 2100mAh battery, yet measures in at a slim 5.19 by 2.71 by 0.33 inches and weighs 5.1 ounces. The Optimus G Pro phablet, meanwhile, features a 5.5-inch, 1,920-by-1,080 full HD IPS display, with 440 pixels per inch.
At this point, we’ll just have to wait to see what the G2 has in store. What are you hoping for, spec-wise?
