Looking for a 4G LTE smartphone that’s not going to cost you an arm and a leg? MetroPCS has you covered.
The carrier on Thursday added a new handset to its 4G LTE lineup – the Huawei Premia 4G, which is now available in MetroPCS stores and online(Opens in a new window) for $149 off-contract. The Premia 4G runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and boasts a 4-inch, 800-by-480-pixel display.
As for other specs, there’s a 1.5-GHz dual-core CPU and 1GB RAM, along with a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash. The phone measures in at 4.96 x 2.53 x 0.48 inches and weighs just 4.94 ounces.
As for apps, the Premia 4G comes with with joyn by MetroPCS, which will let you keep up with friends through Wi-Fi and video calls, as well as integrated instant messaging, chat, image, video, and file sharing. Also, because the phone runs Android, it will have full access to the Google Play app store, which is now stocked with more than 600,000 apps.
While the Premia 4G can’t be called a top-tier handset, it does have 4G LTE mobile hotspot capabilities right out of the box (for an additional fee). You can also access Rhapsody unlimited on-demand music for $5 per month.
The Premia 4G can be paired with any MetroPCS 4G LTE rate plan, which start at $40 per month and offer unlimited talk, text, and data.
Meanwhile, it looks like everything is falling into place for the MetroPCS and T-Mobile merger. The Federal Communications Commission last week approved the merger, finding that it will not adversely affect wireless competition and will help expand 4G LTE across the U.S. Meanwhile, the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States gave its stamp of approval(Opens in a new window) on Wednesday.
