Heads up, U.K.-based readers. If you’ve had your eye on a new Nexus 7 tablet, now might be a good time to take the plunge.
Google on Tuesday announced(Opens in a new window) it has teamed up with Asus to offer a £50 Google Play Credit when you purchase a 16GB Nexus 7 tablet through June 1. The deal is only open to residents of the U.K., including Northern Ireland, Channel Islands, and Isle of Man.
If you recently purchased a Nexus 7 , don’t fret. The promotional period started on May 5, so you’ll still qualify as long as you bought the tablet from a U.K.-based retailer in the last week. To redeem your credit, head to asuspromotions.com(Opens in a new window) within 30 days of your purchase and follow the instructions.
According to PCMag’s review, the Nexus 7 is the best small-screen Android tablet you can buy right now, offering top-of-the-line hardware and performance, along with the latest software for under $200. The tablet earned our Editors’ Choice designation for striking the “perfect balance between price and performance.”
It might soon have some competition, however. Evidence emerged this week that a new HTC-made Nexus device is in the works. According to ZDNet(Opens in a new window), newly published changelogs in the Android Open Source Project (ASOP) include references to a so-far unknown HTC device with a fishy codename — “Flounder.”
That might seem strange, but as it turns out, every Nexus device in the past has used a codename associated with a different sea creature. Similar references to Flounder were also found this week(Opens in a new window) in the Chromium issue tracker.
