Steve Jobs recently returned to the stage to introduce Apple’s second generation tablet. And with many of the company’s products, the new iPad 2 is putting the tech buying public in a frenzy.

People who once adored their original iPads are seeing the devices different after the latest unveiling. Apple’s iPad 2 has a thinner design, comes in white as well as black, features two cameras, and has improved internals, like a faster processor.

For some, taking a long look at that original iPad creates feelings of resentment and angry questions. “Why couldn’t you have two cameras?” “Why don’t you come in white?” “Why are you so fat?!”

But there is no need to give your iPad 1 an inferiority complex. The simple fact is the original iPad is an excellent device that paved the way for all the Xooms, Playbooks, and Touchpads of the world. The iPad is a PCMag Editor’s Choice winner for good reason. It still is one of the best choices if you’re in the market for a tablet. For the most part, the difference between the two generations of iPads is not so great.

A nice little tactic is to include all of your iPad 1 accessories to increase the value of your lot. Do yourself a favor and be honest with your description and have pictures. Another option is “eBay Instant Sale,” where you can describe your iPad and the site will make you an offer right on the spot. Either way, you’ll be rid of that tablet in no time.

In the movies, whenever someone wants to get rid of something old (usually an older person to get inheritance money), they push it down the stairs. Your iPad will likely not survive its harrowing journey. Oh, no! Now your iPad is broken! What will you do now? Get an iPad 2.

Selling your stuff to strangers may be frightening, so why not sell to your friends? Facebook Marketplace is a good way to sell to people you probably know. Although, when you deal with a friend, be aware that you may become tech support when something goes wrong.

The site asks you a few questions about your device, in this case your unloved iPad, and then offers you money. You probably will get less from Gazelle than you would on the open market, but then again, you’ll be rid of that iPad in a hurry.

If you can create your own reality distortion field in your home, you can convince yourself that your iPad is really a laptop. By getting a case like the Clamcase, you can upgrade your iPad with a physical keyboard in that old familiar form factor. If you’re feeling nostalgic, you could gut your old iBook like one modder did. Before you know it, you’ll think you have a laptop and no tablet. Time to get something new.
