Microsoft on Friday announced a deal with Time Warner Cable to bring more than 300 of the cable provider’s live TV channels to the Xbox 360.

The deal will offer Time Warner Cable subscribers with an Xbox Live Gold membership access to hundreds of shows right from their console, including programs from AMC, BBC World News, Bravo, Cartoon Network, CNN, Comedy Central, Food Network, and HGTV, among others. Even cooler — users will also be able to control this content using their voice via Kinect for Xbox 360.

The TWC TV app for Xbox is expected to launch “later this summer.” Users will be able to download it right from the Xbox Live marketplace, then login with their Time Warner Cable credentials to start watching live TV.

“TWC TV is a significant addition to Xbox 360, bringing our customers their favorite entertainment in one place — enhanced TV experience, games, movies, music, sports and entertainment apps,” Blair Westlake, corporate vice president of Microsoft’s media and entertainment group, said in a statement(Opens in a new window). “Our partnership with TWC enhances all that is available on Xbox 360 today, which will we continue expand.”

At this point, there are more than 120 voice-controlled apps available for the Xbox 360. Microsoft back in 2011 partnered with Comcast and Verizon FiOS, as well as a variety of content providers, to allow subscribers to watch live TV and on-demand video via the Xbox 360. The latest deal with Time Warner Cable, however, brings more live channels to the console than any other experience, Microsoft said.

Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox One ($200.00 at eBay)(Opens in a new window) will feature a number of entertainment-related functions, including an easy switch from gameplay to live TV by using your voice. Microsoft said today that it will “have more details to share about Xbox One entertainment in the coming months.”

Meanwhile, Time Warner also this week announced(Opens in a new window) plans to light up more than 1,000 new Wi-Fi hotspots in Manhattan by mid-July. At this point, the cable giant has more than 1,700 active hotspots in Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island. By the end of the year, it aims to add nearly 10,000 hotspots across NYC.

The hotspots are available to Time Warner Cable customers with standard Internet at no additional cost. To view all the available hotspot locations head over to Time Warner’s website.
