Another classic Angry Birds title arrived for Windows Phone today – Angry Birds Rio.

In this edition, which ties into the 2011 film Rio, the original feathered creatures are captured and sent off to Rio de Janeiro. But they break out and wreak havoc on their captors and cages before setting out to rescue friends Blu and Jewel.

The game features 210 levels and more than 40 bonus stages bound to keep you shooting avian projectiles for a long time; find the Special Hidden Fruits while tackling bosses in lush, tropical settings. There’s also integration with Xbox Live, enabling leaderboards and achievements.

Angry Birds Rio is available for $0.99 in the Windows Phone Marketplace(Opens in a new window) for Windows Phone 7 and 8 devices. It joins a host of other special-edition Angry Birds already available for Windows Phone, like Angry Birds Star Wars, Seasons, and Space.

Recently, Angry Birds Friends arrived on Android and iOS devices, allowing players to compete against Facebook friends while on the go.

In other Rovio news, the Finnish studio recently unveiled “Rovio Stars,” which will seek out promising mobile games for publication by Rovio. Rovio said it is “one of the powerhouses of entertainment,” with more than 1.7 billion downloads, and wants to extend its reach to third-party game developers. The first two games to be published under Rovio Stars will be Icebreaker: A Viking Voyage (iOS) and Tiny Thief (iOS, Android).

Earlier in May, Rovio rolled out Rovio Account, a feature than syncs your game progress across different devices. For now, it’s only available for iOS devices in Poland and Finland but will gradually come to other areas.
