High scores let us feel like we’ve accomplished something with our lives when all we’ve really done is sink untold time and energy mastering a video game. Imagine the existential crisis then when players are confronted with the absurdly high fake scores of cheaters who have constantly plagued Apple’s Game Center service.

Now, our long national nightmare is over, as Apple is making it easier for developers to purge fake players and scores from their Game Center listings, according to Touch Arcade(Opens in a new window).

Before, cracking down on cheaters was an overly drawn-out process. App developers would have to contact Apple and have them fix any hacks or other issues with the game. With this latest update(Opens in a new window), though, developers can simply sign into iTunes Connect to “delete fake scores and block players that use fake scores” directly, Apple said. If developers make a mistake, previous scores and players can easily be restored.

The access only extends to the top 100 on global Game Center leaderboards but that should be enough to manage the most ridiculous, game-breaking fake scores while protecting legitimate players. iOS has become a huge gaming platform and many games take advantage of Game Center, so cleaning it up could have widespread impact. However, Touch Arcade noted that rampant cheating has been a problem on iOS for years, even outside of Game Center, so this likely won’t stop it entirely.

Developers can learn more about the update on the iTunes Connect Developer Guide(Opens in a new window).
