AT&T topped tech headlines yesterday after extending FaceTime over cellular to any compatible iOS device on a tiered data plan.

AT&T caused a stir last year when it announced that customers could only tap into FaceTime over cellular if they subscribed to an AT&T shared data plans. In November, AT&T extended that to LTE devices on tiered data plans, and that now applies to compatible 3G iOS devices, like the iPhone 4S. Critics, however, are concerned that AT&T customers who are still on unlimited data plans are still locked out of FaceTime over cellular.

In other mobile news, Facebook is rolling out a free calling option to iPhone Facebook Messenger users. Thanks to the new feature, U.S. Facebook users can make free calls to iPhone-toting friends over Wi-Fi or via a data connection.

Meanwhile, in retail news, the motion-control software/hardware company Leap Motion will launch its Minority Report-like motion controller ($214.09 at Amazon)(Opens in a new window) this spring, exclusively at U.S. Best Buy stores and online at BestBuy.com. The high-tech controller — 3 inches long, 1 inch wide, and half an inch thick — boasts a 150-degree field of view and the ability to track individual hands and all 10 fingers at up to 290 frames per second.

Switching gears to gaming, the sequel to Temple Run is upon us. Players will have even more chances to slide, leap, and collect coins in Temple Run 2, which is now available in the App Store.

Ubisoft, on the other hand, is delaying the launch of Splinter Cell: Blacklist. It is now expected to hit stores on Aug. 20, months after the intended “spring 2013” launch.
