Irrational Games today released the first downloadable content pack (DLC) for its best-selling BioShock Infinite, which hit game consoles in March.
Available now for download on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows PC, BioShock Infinite: Clash in the Clouds provides new challenges, weapons, gear, and locales, for $4.99 (or 400 Microsoft Points on Xbox Live).
Players can combine weapons, Vigors, Gear, Tears, and Sky-Lines to battle their way through 60 Blue Ribbon challenges, where players will unlock exclusives like new Voxophones, Kinetoscopes, concept art, and more.
Download the Columbian adventure via Steam, PSN, or Xbox 360 to gain access to four new challenge maps (The Ops Zeal, Duke & Dimwit Theater, Raven’s Dome, and Emporia Arcade), each with a slew of enemies to defeat.
The DLC is part of the $19.99 BioShock Infinite Season Pass(Opens in a new window), which includes the two-part add-on BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea, and the Early Bird Special Pack with weapon upgrades.
Burial At Sea returns agent Booker DeWitt and Elizabeth to the underwater city of Rapture on Dec. 31, 1958 the night before its famed fall. “Why are Booker and Elizabeth in Rapture?” a blog post(Opens in a new window) from Irrational Games teases. “What was the city like before everything fell to pieces?” The answers, the game maker said, will be found in Episode 1.
The second chapter, meanwhile, provides users the long-awaited ability to see the world through Elizabeth’s eyes in a sort of survival horror game.
The Burial at Sea story is set against a backdrop of pre-fall Rapture, Irrational Games creative director Ken Levine told(Opens in a new window) PCMag’s sister site, IGN.
“To have an extended period in pre-fall Rapture without combat, where you’re just living in the space nobody has ever been able to do that before, with those systems and that technology,” he said. “You get this mix of pristine Rapture and a very traditional Rapture experience, in a pretty organic story.”
Along with new stories, the DLC includes more player-initiated combat, which Levine admitted “sort of slipped away from us” in the original Infinite game.
“We are really excited to offer our fans the content that they have been asking for,” Levine said in a separate statement.
“With Clash in the Clouds, people get a pure action experience that takes BioShock Infinite combat to its highest challenge and intensity level,” he said. “With the Burial at Sea episodes, we are building a Rapture-based narrative experience that is almost entirely built from scratch.”
No release date has been announced for either Burial at Sea episode; the first will enter beta soon, IGN reported. All DLC in the Season Pass will be released by the end of March 2014.
