Too busy taking in the Olympics to check out the tech headlines over the weekend? Here’s what you missed.
In a shock to mobile gaming fans everywhere, Flappy Bird developer Dong Nguyen over the weekend pulled the popular game from Google Play and the App Store. Those who already have it installed, however, can still play at the moment. Nguyen said the move was not related to a legal challenge or sale of the game, but because the attention was too overwhelming. “I cannot take this anymore,” he tweeted on Saturday. Also making headlines, Apple’s first major update to iOS 7 is expected to hit in “early March,” according to the latest batch of unnamed sources speaking to 9to5Mac(Opens in a new window). That’s a wee bit later than some of the other rumors that pegged Apple’s update arriving in the next few weeks or so. Suffice to say, it appears as if iOS 7 will be arriving imminently, if nothing else.
In gaming news, if you loved The Last of Us, you’re not alone. Naughty Dog’s post-apocalyptic zombie thriller stole the show in Las Vegas last week at the DICE Awards, taking home the coveted Game of the Year award and nine other accolades. This year marked the 17th annual DICE Awards, one of the gaming industry’s most prestigious honors.
