Topping tech headlines on Monday were reports of a mystery barge in the San Francisco Bay that is reportedly linked to Google.
While some speculated that the structure is a water-based data center – something for which Google is pursuing a patent – local CBS affiliate KPIX said the barge will actually be a floating marketing center for Google Glass, the company’s futuristic eyeglasses.
In other news, Nvidia launched an update to its Shield handheld gaming system, giving the device Android 4.3 and adding several new features that expand the number of compatible games from hundreds to thousands. The update also marks the official launch of the Shield’s GameStream feature, which lets users stream games from their PC to the Shield over a local network.
Meanwhile, Apple CEO Tim Cook said during a Monday earnings call that Cupertino never intended its new iPhone 5c to be its “low cost” smartphone. “Our entry iPhone was the iPhone 4s,” he said.
In other smartphone news, LG officially unveiled its curved smartphone, dubbed the LG G Flex. It will roll out in Korea next month before expanding to other markets.
