Topping tech headlines on Thursday was Nokia’s unveiling of the Lumia 1020, a 4.5-inch Windows Phone 8 smartphone featuring a 41-megapixel camera.
The Lumia 1020 will be available exclusively on AT&T starting July 26, with a $299.99 price tag with two-year contract. Pre-orders begin July 16 via AT&T’s website. Its most impressive feature, though, is the 41-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization, with a 6-lens design, a manual shutter, and Xenon flash. The Lumia 1020 can capture 34-megapixel and 38-megapixel images, as well as HD video in 1080p at 30 frames per second. In other device news, the Pebble smartwatch has logged an impressive 275,000 pre-orders, 190,000 of which came after its massive Kickstarter campaign. Additionally, Pebble users have already downloaded more than one million “watchapps,” the company said. Moving forward, the Pebble team is looking to ramp up manufacturing and shipping with the goal of getting its device on as many wrists as possible.
Meanwhile, Oregon dad Paul Stoute is now the proud owner of a beat-up 1962 Austin Healey Sprite, after his 14-month-old daughter, Sorella, got hold of his smartphone. Last month, the toddler grabbed the unlocked phone, opened up the eBay app, and starting tapping. Unbeknownst to the family, she’d managed to bid on the vintage car, and actually won. Stoute later found out via an eBay email that his daughter’s $225 bid was in fact the highest.
