The sequel to Plants vs. Zombies will debut in July, game maker PopCap announced in a Monday teaser video.

The one-minute spot (below) features fans of all ages begging PopCap to release Plants vs. Zombies 2. “It seems like it’s about time,” one man says. “Wouldn’t most video games have a sequel out by now?” asks another. Players get increasingly frustrated with the lack of new plants and zombies in their lives until PopCap reveals at the video’s close that the game will debut in July.

That’s later than the original “spring 2013” launch timeframe PopCap anticipated back in Aug. 2012. The company did not explain the delay, but added the “It’s About Time” tagline to the game’s logo.

Details about what the sequel will entail have not yet been released.

Plants vs. Zombies made its debut in 2009 for the PC, and an iOS version followed the next year. The game has since been released for the Xbox, Nintendo DS, PlayStation 3, Android, and the BlackBerry PlayBook.

The game features a homeowner using various plants to fight off an army of brain-hungry zombies.

The HD iPad version(Opens in a new window) of Plants vs. Zombies was originally available in the App Store for $6.99, while the iPhone version(Opens in a new window) was $2.99. After making both versions free via iOS for a short time, they are now $0.99. On Google Play(Opens in a new window), the price has also dropped from $2.95 to $0.99.
