Popular mobile game Plants vs. Zombies is free today in the Apple App Store.
The usual price tag has been dropped for iOS users, who can now play the garden slasher app for free. Both the iPhone (regularly $2.99) and HD iPad ($6.99) versions are available at no cost.
PopCap’s director of editorial and social media, Jeff Green, revealed the deal(Opens in a new window) via Twitter today, writing “I’ve heard this game is pretty good. Might as well give it a shot cuz #YOLO.”
Neither PopCap nor Apple provided an explanation for the freebie, or revealed how long the reduction will last. But anyone who hasn’t already dropped a few dollars on the game since its 2010 arrival should probably act fast.
Download it(Opens in a new window) in the iTunes App Store now for a shot at pelting brain-hungry zombies with plant bulbs.
While there is no word specifically on whether Android users may get the same treatment, Green responded(Opens in a new window) to a “No love for android users?” tweet with: “Your day will come. Someday.”
Plants vs. Zombies, which was named Apple’s iPhone game of the year, debuted in 2010, and three years later is expected to get a sequel. PopCap announced in August that the a follow-up to the popular game will include “a bevy of new features, settings, and situations designed to delight the franchise’s tens of millions of fans around the world.”
The title will likely hit online stores in the late spring.
