Sony plans to reveal launch details about the PlayStation 4 at a Tuesday press conference from the Gamescom conference in Germany.
“We’ll kick off the show at 18:00 BST on 20 August 2013 with a briefing to media on our release plans for PlayStation 4, as well as updates on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita,” Sony said in a post on its U.K. PlayStation blog(Opens in a new window).
Those who aren’t in Cologne can tune in on the Gamescom website(Opens in a new window) at 6 p.m. BST, which is 1 p.m. Eastern and 10 a.m. Pacific.
“Once the Koelnmesse opens its doors to the public, PS4 leads the way as gamers get to try out the next generation in console gaming for the first time, and there’s plenty to get excited about on PS3 and PS Vita too,” Sony said.
In an effort to drum up buzz for their new consoles, Microsoft and Sony have been dragging out details regarding their new devices. Sony first first unveiled the PS4 at a two-hour event in New York City back in February, but did not actually show off the console. The big reveal – as well as information about pricing – happened in June, at a major press event just prior to the E3 gaming conference. Now, the one major detail remaining is when the console will actually be released, but it’s expected in time for the 2013 holiday season.
Both consoles are currently available for pre-order. The PS4 ($799.95 at Amazon)(Opens in a new window)
will set you back $399; the Xbox One ($200.00 at eBay)(Opens in a new window)
will be $100 more, but includes the Kinect sensor (whether you like it or not).
