iOS users can now saddle up and travel back in time to the Wild West with Disney’s new Lone Ranger game.
Disney wasted no time in releasing the new game(Opens in a new window) based on The Lone Ranger, as its latest movie just hit theaters today. For those not familiar with the The Lone Ranger, it’s the well-loved classic tale of an ex-Texas Ranger who fights injustice with his Indian sidekick Tonto on the American frontier.
In this 3D role-playing game, users take on the identity of a Texas Ranger to serve justice to the villains of the Old West. As a rugged law enforcer, the gamers’ goals are to restore peace to the town of Colby by protecting its citizens and embark on quests to end greed and corruption. No one can do this, of course, without the help of trusty allies and outlaws at their side.
The game lets players team up with none other than the Lone Ranger and Tonto and help them face the evil Butch Cavendish and his gang in combat. By dueling bandits and facing off in showdowns with outlaws, users can level-up to unlock new weapons, tools, and horses to prepare them on their conquest through the rough West terrain.
Disney promised versions in Italian, German, and Spanish starting late July.
Available for free in the App Store, the game is rated for ages 12 and older and systems require iOS 5 or later. It is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (3rd-5th generation), and iPad.
Mobile games have become a popular promotional tools for blockbuster movies. Recently, studios have released games in connection with Man of Steel, The Croods, and Iron Man 3.
