Topping tech headlines Tuesday, Verizon Communications purchased Intel’s Cloud TV division .
As part of the deal, Verizon will pick up the intellectual property rights and other assets that power Intel’s OnCue Cloud TV platform. Once the transaction closes—expected in the first quarter of 2014—Verizon will integrate IP-based TV services with FiOS video, meaning improved search and discovery functions and easier cross-screen capabilities for customers.
In other news, an Ohio man was allegedly interrogated by federal agents for wearing a Google Glass headset at the Easton Mall movie theater in Columbus. About an hour into the new Jack Ryan film, Shadow Recruit, the Glass-wearer was accused of using the computing device to illegally record the movie. According to the man’s account, which was published on The Gadgeteer, he’d recently purchased $600 prescription lenses for his headset, but turned it off during the movie. He and his non-Glass-wearing wife were eventually dismissed, with two free movie passes for their trouble.
In other Glass news, the inevitable “Sex With Glass” app has arrived, for better or worse.
Meanwhile, Candy Crush Saga developer King has moved to trademark the term “candy,” but those with an interest in the word can still object. Almost a year after the company’s original trademark application filing, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office last week approved it for publication. Now, those who object have 30 days to register their complaints.
