9 Spray Patterns

With all those spray patterns to choose from, how do you know which to use? And are they all really necessary?

I tend to use the shower or rain pattern on my plants, the mist pattern on seedlings, and the stream if I want to knock off something like box elder bugs on the tool shed.  I especially like the rain pattern – it puts out a lot of water but is gentle enough not to knock plants over.

The other spray patterns (center, cone, angle, flat, and fan) mostly control the shape/spread of the water sprayed from the nozzle. They’re interesting and I can see cases where they’d come in handy, but I use those much less often.

To change patterns, simply rotate the ring on the head of the nozzle until the arrow points to the pattern you want. Each spray pattern is clearly marked on the spray head. You’ll hear and feel a “click” when it locks into place.

What Makes the One Touch Special?

Most spray nozzles come with either an on/off valve (which can be difficult to open or close) or require you to squeeze a lever/trigger to keep the water flowing. Both options can be difficult or tiring to use, especially for those with arthritis or hand strength issues.

The One Touch system allows you to turn the water on and off, as well as control water volume, simply by sliding a valve forward or backward with your thumb. The handle is well-designed and comfortable to hold, and will put the valve within easy reach for all but the smallest hands.

After turning it on and off 1,000 times to see how it would hold up (we thought a typical gardener might turn it on and off up to 1,000 times in a season), it still operated flawlessly, with no leaks, looseness, or signs of wear.

The Revolution nozzle is made of heavy-duty metal that’s powder coated in one of Dramm’s six signature colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue or berry).

The molded hand grip has a textured plastic surface that’s comfortable to hold and not slippery.

Even after extended use, there was no water leakage, either from the hose connection or the tool itself. Although there is a washer already in the hose nozzle, we recommend inserting another high-quality, rubber washer into the connection point (such as this one from Gilmour) to prevent any leaks.
