If you’re still bugging friends for their photos from that crazy Cinco de Mayo bash, Facebook’s new photo-sharing app may help.

Dubbed Moments, the standalone service groups images on your phone based on when they were taken and, using facial-recognition software, which friends are in them. You can then tell the app to sync those pictures with specific friends, and hope they do the same.

“When you go to a wedding, for example, there are many people taking great photos throughout the day,” product manager Will Ruben wrote in a blog post(Opens in a new window).

“You all want a quick way to share your photos with the friends who are in them, and get photos that you’re in back,” Ruben added. “The same is true for smaller events too, like a kayak trip or a night out.”

Operating separately from Facebook, Moments does not require the usually tedious process of tagging to ensure friends don’t miss a shot of their smiling face. The in-app algorithms do all the work for you, and promise secure sharing among users.

Instantly post your favorite photos—whether it’s yours or a friend’s—to Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram. Or just keep them in Moments to privately relive the good times. Images are organized by who’s in them, so it’s easy to search for a person’s name or an album title.

News of “Moments” first emerged in September.
