Unless you’re Korean, or you know how to speak the language, the lyrics of Psy’s “Gangnam Style” are likely a mystery. But the interesting beat and funny dancing, especially the horse-like gesture, made the video interesting, and earlier this week it reached two billion views, making it the most watched video on YouTube.

YouTube announced the milestone on Twitter(Opens in a new window) and celebrated the sucess of “Gangnam Style” with small pixelated characters dancing next to the number of views. Clicking on either character shows a similar group of characters dancing while displaying the current number of views of the song, which is still climbing. 

The song’s rise to fame was seen as early as December 2012 when the video reached one billion views six months after it first surfaced on YouTube, making it the top trending video in 2012. Psy followed up with another music video, “Gentleman,” in 2013. While Ylvis’ “The Fox (What Does The Fox Say?)” was the top trending video in 2013, “Gentleman” was the top music video of the year. It currently has 690 million views.

Compare the views on Psy’s music videos to today’s trending videos. At the time of this writing, a video on Ubisoft’s newest game, Watch Dogs, and its multiplayer experience(Opens in a new window) is at the top of the charts, garnering over 1, 422,000 views. Second on the list is a video from the popular channel Vsauce about some surprising facts and paradoxes(Opens in a new window).

“Gangnam Style” is the latest entry in a small group of social media posts that attracted the most views. Ellen Degeneres’s group selfie at the Academy Awards(Opens in a new window) had the most retweets, currently at 3.4 million, and last week Kim Kardashian’s wedding photo on Instagram(Opens in a new window) garnered 2.14 million likes, making it the most liked photo on Instagram, according to The Hollywood Reporter(Opens in a new window).
