Instagram Turns On Account Switching

As expected, Instagram is rolling out multiple account switching(Opens in a new window) to iOS and Android users.

One of the most-requested features is officially available(Opens in a new window) after beta testing on both platforms.

Visit Instagram’s profile settings to add up to five accounts to one app; find the option at the bottom of the screen, near “Clear Search History” and “Log Out.” Once it’s set up, tap the preferred user name at the top of the profile page to make the switch, without the hassle of logging in and out.

You’ll see the corresponding profile picture appear in various places throughout the app, so you always know which account you’re using. The same goes for push notifications, which highlight the matching account photo, Latergramme reported last week(Opens in a new window).

The new function is available as part of Instagram version 7.15 for iOS and Android; visit the iTunes App Store or Google Play store to download the update and start swapping between personal, private, and work accounts.

To remove an account, simply log out of that username (or all accounts) in the app’s Settings.

But what about those who only operate one photo-sharing account? Intentional or not, Instagram may have just opened the door for a slew of new accounts—created just so users (myself included) can take advantage of the new feature.

Reason to create a private personal Instagram account for sharing bits and pieces with friends only? Easy switching between accounts. ??
