Brace yourself, Instagram users.
The Facebook-owned social network rolled out a small update for its iPhone app on Wednesday with one big change: Videos in your feed will now loop over and over and over again — a la Vine — instead of just playing once. Instagram also recently updated the Android version of the app with the same functionality.
The new looping feature will not affect how much data the app uses, Instagram said. But we can’t promise it won’t drive you insane.
The change basically brings Instagram in line with Twitter’s Vine, which automatically loops videos for a GIF-like experience.
Unlike Vine, however, Instagram does not currently have a way to keep track of how many plays a video receives. Vine last summer rolled out a so-called “loop counter” for this purpose, and we wouldn’t be surprised if Instagram followed suit in the future.
Do you think you’ll find looping videos on Instagram annoying, or are you down with the change? Tell us in the comments below.
Instagram’s last big update back in December included five new filters: Slumber, Crema, Ludwig, Perpetua, and Aden. That update also brought several other handy features, including the ability to upload slo-mo video, see comments in real-time without having to refresh your feed, and adjust your photo’s perspective using the adjust tool.
