Twitter is putting a visual spin(Opens in a new window) on the hashtag with #Stickers.

The new photo-editing tool lets users add digital accessories, emoji, and props to photos uploaded to the social network. When editing a photos, tap the smiley-face icon at the bottom of the screen to access a library of labels; skim through various categories—accessories, animals, food, technology, flags, etc.—to jazz up your images.

The featured section includes Live Stickers tied to world events, holidays, and other themes (like summer and graduation). #Stickers can be resized, rotated, and placed anywhere on a photo.

Like hashtags, #Stickers aim to make it easy for people to explore a topic of interest or join a global conversation. So any public tweet containing a sticker is searchable; just tap on an emblem to call up a timeline of messages from people around the world using the same stamp.

“Millions of tweets with photos are sent every day on Twitter, capturing the moments that the world is talking about,” Chief Marketing Officer Leslie Berland said in a statement.

By making sticker searchable like hashtags, we’re enabling the best of Twitter: making it easy for people to create conversations around events and experiences that are happening right now.”

The feature is rolling out over the coming weeks on Twitter for iOS and Android. Joining photo-editing features like filters, tags, and cropping, #Stickers will also be viewable across Twitter.com.
