Still think livestreaming is just a passing fad? You may want to think again.

Twitter on Monday announced that Periscope users have created more than 200 million broadcasts since the live-streaming app hit the market just one year ago. Moreover, at this point, Periscope users are watching more than 110 years of live video every day on iOS and Android, the company said.

That’s up from more than 40 years of video watched per day in August, about five months after the app first launched. The company defines time watched as the aggregate amount of time people spend watching live broadcasts on iOS and Android.

“We’re proud of what we’ve built together and we’re excited to share just how far we’ve come,” the Periscope team wrote in a blog post(Opens in a new window) celebrating the app’s first birthday, which took place on Saturday. “For everyone who joined us along the way, we hope this reaffirms that you are a part of something bigger. Thank you for making Periscope a vibrant global community — it means everything to us.”

Since its launch, Periscope has faced increasing competition from Facebook, which recently expanded its own live video feature to Android after making it available to all iPhone users in January. And it doesn’t look like Facebook is planning to back down any time soon; word has it CEO Mark Zuckerberg is “obsessed(Opens in a new window)” with livestreaming and has made it one of the social network’s top priorities.

Meanwhile, Periscope’s other big rival Meetkat recently announced it is refocusing and changing up its business model, partly due to competition from Periscope and Facebook Live.
