Visual Supply Company’s VSCO Cam 4.0(Opens in a new window) hit app stores today, promising an updated user interface, advanced camera controls, and iPad accessibility.

Now optimized for Apple’s tablets, the mobile photo-editing app lets users compare various filters side by side, and makes it easier to get the right color, contrast, and sharpness on a bigger screen.

“We’re really trying to take advantage of the Retina display on the iPads with the new app, but we’re also trying to answer our users’ needs no matter what camera they use,” VSCO told The Wall Street Journal(Opens in a new window). “We’ve seen a lot of people shooting photos on their iPhone and editing on their iPad, and a lot of people shooting on their DSLR and editing on their iPad.”

Plus, new sync functionality enables shooting and editing across iOS and Android devices; just make sure you’ve signed up with the app on all gadgets.

Whether you’re capturing moments on your iPhone or fixing the shadows on you iPad, Apple’s iOS 8 camera API allows developers to dig deeper into the next-gen system’s capabilities, making room for features like enhanced search and edit history.

New and longtime users can also take advantage of VSCO Cam’s Journal, now out of beta and allowing photographers to add words to images, then share content with the community.

Similarly, VSCO Cam 3.0 launched earlier this year, bringing iPhone users an updated Grid and social media connections.

Not quite up to par with the iOS application, VSCO Cam 3.1 for Android comes with many of the same features, as well as an updated camera, improved image quality, split focus on select devices, and an auto launch-to-camera option.

The Android model only launched in December, providing its built-in gallery, image editing tools, and filters to a new set of users.

Those who prefer the large-screen experience can now find supplementary support on the Web: Import your DSLR photos to the cloud online, so you can edit them on your phone or tablet later.

The VSCO Cam is available to download for free in the iTunes App Store(Opens in a new window) and Google Play store(Opens in a new window). For more, see PCMag’s reviews of VSCO Cam for iPhone (slideshow above) and Android.
