Camera maker Canon is joining the likes of Flickr and Picasa with the launch of its own cloud-based storage service, dubbed irista.

The site(Opens in a new window) aims to be the one place on the Web where you store and organize all your digital snaps. “People today take thousands of digital photographs which have become scattered across multiple devices, irista is built to help curate entire image libraries in one central location,” Canon said in a statement.

It has a tiled interface that focuses heavily on organization and search, letting you view a timeline of your images, and sort them by year, month, day, specific event, or location. Information like camera, lens type, and location can also be included with each photo for easy sorting.

You can tag the people in your photos and search for all the images of a particular person. There’s also some social features, letting you share photos or albums to Facebook and/or Flickr, and keep track of any comments your photos have received on these platforms.

“People are taking more photos on more devices than ever before, but it can be difficult to enjoy your images when they’re stored in different places,” Alessandro Stanzani, head of the Canon Europe consumer imaging group, said in a statement. “With irista, we’ve created a platform that solves that problem.”

The site supports “any file type from JPEG to RAW.” At this point, there are no irista mobile apps, though you can automatically sync existing and future photos from your computer through the desktop app, manually upload individual images via the web, or import them from Facebook and/or Flickr.

As for storage space and pricing, the base tier offers 10GB for free and includes all the functionality of the irista platform. Those in the U.K. and select countries in Europe can purchase additional storage, starting with 50GB for £4.49/€4.99 ($7), or £45.00/€49.00 ($75) for a year. If that’s not enough, there’s also a 100GB tier for £9.99/€10.99 ($15) per month or £99/€109 ($170) for the whole year.
