Amazon is discounting its popular Echo and Echo Dot devices for the next few days, but there are some caveats.
From now until June 5 at 11:59 p.m. ET, the Echo Dot(Opens in a new window) will be $10 off if you use the code DOTSAVE10, pushing the price down to $39.99. The larger Amazon Echo(Opens in a new window), meanwhile, is getting a $40 discount to $139.99 if you use the code ECHOSAVE40.
The catch is that you must fall into one of two buckets. You must either be a Prime(Opens in a new window) member who has never purchased an Echo device before, or be someone who has never purchased an Echo device but has bought a smart home product(Opens in a new window) on Amazon (no Prime membership required for the latter).
In PCMag’s review, we found that the Echo is much more than a wireless speaker. It’s part voice assistant, part home automation hub, and its abilities continue to expand steadily. It’s also a blast to use. The Dot is a more economical option for those who want to tap into Alexa. It’s not great for listening to music, we found, but you can connect it to your favorite home speaker. See more in the video below.
The sale comes as Amazon gets ready to release a touch-screen version of the Echo, the Amazon Echo Show(Opens in a new window). The $230 device is available for pre-order now and is expected to ship on June 28.
