LAS VEGAS—With so many digital home devices on display, the show floor at CES this year almost felt more like a gigantic house than a convention center. OK, it didn’t really, but it’s safe to say that a truly connected home is no longer a futuristic concept.

CES bug art (update)

Everything I saw was geared toward simplifying your life or automating your experiences around the house. Why wash one load of laundry at a time when you can do two? Have trouble keeping plants alive? There’s an app—and a pot—for that. Even the most seemingly mundane household chores, like boiling a cup of water for tea, have been addressed in such a way that it makes you wonder why you ever listened to a kettle scream on the stove all these years.

There are also plenty of options if you want to ramp up security, cook more interesting meals, or even have a better checkup at the dentist. If there’s something you typically do around the house, chances are some company has come up with a smarter way to do it.

There were so many cool connected products on display this year, it was hard to narrow them down. I chose 10 for this list, but there were plenty more that could have easily made the cut. Because the digital home is still a relatively new space, it’ll be interesting to see which players are able to best command consumer attention in the year ahead—and whether users want to automate everything in their homes in the first place.

1. LG Twin Wash

LG Twin Wash

Admittedly more home appliance than digital home, the LG Twin Wash is nevertheless my favorite find at CES this year. It’s essentially a washing machine within a washing machine. There’s space for a full-size load on top, and a smaller, pull-out drawer on the bottom allows you to wash a second load simultaneously, so that you can get through the dreaded laundry day in half the amount of time.

2. Parrot Pot

Parrot Pot

The Parrot Pot is a Bluetooth-connected flowerpot with a built-in reservoir to automatically water your plants for you. It holds enough water to provide plants with moisture for three months, and measures factors like ambient light, temperature, soil moisture, and fertilizer. So even if you don’t have a particularly green thumb, this attractive pot should make it easy to keep some plants around your home.

3. Smarter iKettle

Smarter iKettle

The iKettle from Smarter is no ordinary tea kettle. It uses Wi-Fi to hook up with your Android or iOS device and deliver a number of helpful features, like selecting the right brewing temperature, telling you when it’s ready to pour, and reminding you when it’s time for a refill. Don’t worry, coffee drinkers, Smarter has a coffee machine planned as well.

4. Netatmo Welcome

Netatmo Welcome

The Netatmo Welcome(Opens in a new window) is a connected camera that can actually recognize who’s home. By using facial recognition, the camera can send notifications to your phone when someone enters, and let you know if it’s someone you know, like your kid. It live-broadcasts the footage for you to see, while identification data and recorded video is stored on a local SD card.

5. Honeywell Lyric Security System

Honeywell Lyric Security System

After introducing the connected thermostat Lyric last year, Honerywell is expanding the line to include home security. The new products include a wall-mounted LCD touch control panel that responds to voice commands, as well as cameras, intrusion, motion, and smoke detectors. The products will also work with other digital home hubs and devices, so you can mix and match with other ecosystems.

6. iDevices Switch

iDevices Switch

The Switch from iDevices is the first smart plug to integrate with Apple’s HomeKit. Though a free app on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, you can use it to control, monitor, and schedule devices around the house like fans, humidifiers, lamps, and stereos. It also has an attractive, customizable night light on the front, helping set it apart from other smart plugs on the market.

7. Dacor Dual-Range Oven

Dacor Dual-Range Oven

Having a personal chef would be great, but a voice-controlled connected oven is a close second. Dacor’s latest line of dual-range ovens feature built-in tablets that let you issue commands like, “Start bake on the left oven at 200 degrees,” or “Cancel the right oven.” You can also do things like toggle lights, set timers, pause timers, and exit voice control, all by simply saying so. That should make getting dinner on the tablet a whole lot easier.

8. Oral-B Pro SmartSeries 7000

Oral-B Pro SmartSeries 7000

Oral-B has added Bluetooth to its SmartSeries 7000 toothbrush(Opens in a new window) to help make sure users are brushing the way that dentists intend. It connects to an app on your phone to tell you which part of your mouth to brush, let you know if you’re pressing too hard, and encourage you to stick it out for the recommended two minutes.

9. Anova Touch

Anova Touch

Sous vide is quickly becoming a more popular form of home cooking, and Anova is making it easier than ever with the Wi-Fi Anova Touch(Opens in a new window). The Touch is a sous video cooker that connects to your home network and allows you to set the temperature from anywhere. So if you’re going to be late coming home from work, you can just drop the temperature down, or have it hold. The beauty of sous vide is that it’s virtually impossible to overcook anything.

10. Keen Home Smart Vent

Keen Home Smart Vent

Keen is bringing connectivity to a part of the home where you’d least expect it with the Smart Vent(Opens in a new window). It contains temperature and pressure sensors to monitor and recirculate air throughout your home, so you can save money on your heating and cooling bills. It also connects to your phone to allow you to create custom temperature zones throughout the house. Oh, and it has some pretty sleek faceplates, bringing a touch of class to an area in your home that is likely neglected.
