Today, iRobot is boosting its robot vacuum lineup with the Roomba 960, a more affordable version of the Roomba 980 that arrived earlier this year.

iRobot Home AppThe device, which has a starting price of $699, uses mapping, navigation, and an app to roam about the house and keep floors clean. Like the Roomba 980 , the 960 includes features like dirt detect, recharge and resume, and tangle-free debris extraction.

To get that price down, the 960 runs the second-gen motor found in the Roomba 880 (the 980 has a third-gen motor with carpet boost). The 980 also has a larger and longer-lasting battery, but iRobot says the 960 will last for about 75 minutes.

The Roomba 960 connects the iRobot Home app (Android(Opens in a new window), iOS(Opens in a new window)), which lets you control and schedule your device. That app also now works with the Braava jet mopping robot, which arrived in March, over Bluetooth.

“As iRobot continues its push to address significant opportunities within the connected home, we are very excited to bring Roomba 960 and Braava jet app compatibility to market,” Colin Angle, chairman and CEO of iRobot, said in a statement. “This is a significant milestone as we are now able to offer a more accessible Roomba with mapping capabilities and cloud connected features across multiple product lines.”

The Roomba 960 is available now in the US and Canada and will arrive in Japan and select EMEA countries in the third quarter.
